Admission is free, a detailed schedule of the Ignite Talks will be up here on Monday

Change of Venue

We ran into problems with Goose Island Wrigleyville, where the event was originally scheduled to occur.  The problem was that they decided to double-book the space starting at 9pm.  We negotiated hard but in the end it was better to just find a new one.

The good news is the new venue is significantly better and probably is where we should have planned the event in the first place.

Ignite Chicago will take place on 12/6/07 at 6pm at the Debonair Social Club in Wicker Park (1575 N. Milwaukee Ave).  The new space is better for the following reasons:

1. the event doesn’t need to end at 9pm

2.  the A/V is better

3. closer to the city and public transportation

Do I have to RSVP at upcoming.org?

No, not really, but please do so that we know how many are coming.

RSVP at upcoming.org

Do I really have to do 20 slides in 5 minutes???!?

A few people have asked us this question. Basically the answer is Yes.

The Ignite format has been tried a few times before and having the quick progression from slide to slide ensures the talks do not get bogged down. Since the format is proven, we want to stick with it. Give it a shot - its fun!

Having said that, nobody will kick you off the stage for having 17.

There are some really excellent videos on Youtube of the Ignite Seattle - check them out for an example of how the talks are done.

Looking for sponsors

We are looking for additional sponsors for this Ignite.  If you can get your employer to contribute a few hundred bucks to this event I can promise some excellent publicity as well as lots of warm and fuzzy feelings from contributing to the community.  Drop us a line at ignitechicago@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.

What is an appropriate topic?

We have gotten lots of questions about what constitutes an appropriate topic.  Brady Forrest (who set this Ignite phenomenon in motion) says:

When thinking about a talk to submit, don’t talk about pitching your product. Instead talk about what you learned from making it, what you’ve gleaned from user behavior, what larger trend you think this is a part of, or how someone else product has improved your life.

If you have something to say that fits that criteria and would like to present, drop us a line at ignitechicago at gmail dot com.
